I have no idea which saints these ones are. I'm sure my Memere would have known. These were all found in the basement of the old church which someone i know cleaned out today. He sold them to me today.

The first two statues represent St. Jude Thaddeus. St. Jude was one of the 12 Apostles. He is represented by a club and an image of Christ in the Image of Edessa, through which images he is reported to have cured a King of a serious illness. He was known as a miracle worker. His Feast in the Roman Catholic Church is celebrated on Oct. 28. He is one of the saints of 'the impossible cause', or of difficult or desperate cases. He was a relative of Jesus Christ, of Mary, and of Joseph. He is the only relative to have been chosen an Apostle. (Not that he was the only saint in the family!)

as an avid atheist who is fascinated by religious iconography of all kinds, Catholic ones are particularly interesting to me. it's probably because i grew up in a large, Catholic family. i have nothing against any religion, but i choose not to follow any of them beyond fascination - looking from the outside.

I'm curious about this silly thing... apart from Jude Law, is Jude a sort of normal name in the Anglo-Saxon world. It's not in Spain, not at all! You may find some rare Tadeo but Judas?... Never! Well, my ex's brother has Judas as his middle name: his mother felt bad about poor St. Jude Thaddeus because nobody would call a boy after him :)
sorry vetraio! thanks austrohungaro. not surprising about the name "Judas" in Spain. in latin america, to be called a 'Judas' is an insult akin to 'traitor'.
