Just purchased these pair of pedestals at auction. Appear to be made of pine or fir with walnut or mahogany rosettes. Assembled using square/hand wrought nails. The tag shows that the pedestals were sold to famed interior designer William Hodgins of Boston, MA by Mike Bell Antiques, New York, NY. The other tag states "Matheson Entry Hall." Does anyone have any information that could shine light onto these pieces?

      PhilDavidAlexanderMorris,

They are about 36" tall. I can't help but notice how off the proportions are. Wonder if they may have held something like large busts or sculptures? Somehow they ended up in Central PA. Thanks for the info. I will check out the library and the state archives in Harrisburg.

I!!!... think they may have come from around an a impressive door/side frame and to me they look like they are upside down...just my thoughts!... I love them and can see one of my vases sitting on each of those ...beautiful things!....:-)

inky, they do look great. I got in touch with the original antiques dealer's office and they are not upside down. I know the proportions seem to be way off. Most likely held a statue or bust. The dealer's office also said they appear to be from Western England. Jim.

Thanks PhilDavidAlexanderMorris. That would make sense that they may have come from a lodge of some sort. Appreciated.
