This piece is very strange to me !! Looks to be in the shape of a pigs ear! I think its either a spoon rest or more than likely an ashtray, its ceramic and has a pattern of what looks like a tree in black or a nuclear bomb going off!! The back is marked GERMANY & numbered 728 ,it is nearly 4" widest x 1" high Ive only seen west Germany marks before so thought it may be intresting..
    info needed please :-)
Thanks to idcloisonne for id'ing this piece as made by- Jasba Keramik Germany .... :-)

I seriously doubt this is atomic and I think your best clue to research is the mark on the bottom. A great deal depends on the letter "Y" in the word Germany. This shows all upper case letters. That wasn't always the rule. Many older items were all upper case except the letter "Y" which was lower case. There are many sites that cover German ceramic marks. I don't keep them bookmarked anymore but what I have put above should give you a start researching it.

Bingo idcloisonne!!! I wanted to make sure I read all the comments before I opened my mouth here :) (wish I knew how to type a smiley face with a foot in it's mouth, as I often do myself)
I knew this was the rule for jewelry made in Germany and wasn't sure about all else but it only makes sense. Great job and you all are too funny! Keep us laughing!!!
      Thanks sd66
