I was wondering if anyone can help identify this as a vintage Noguchi coffee table base or a knockoff.The wood has a great vintage patina to it so I'm certain its old but it differs from the modern version in these ways.The legs are about 28" long each,the new version I believe has one 29 1/2" and one 30 1/2" leg. It stands about 14 3/4" tall without glass(I found this base with no glass) Also the legs have less curvature along the edges as seen in the pics.There is a slight curve along the bottom and top of the legs so that the glass and floor only touches three points, like the modern Herman Miller base does.There is a steel rod or pin joining the two legs together about the width of a pencil or a tad smaller.The wood is very heavy,some kind of hardwood,I don't know.I did find like two pics of 50's Noguchi tables in old adverts online and they did appear to have the sharper or less curved edges along the legs as does this base.Any help on this would be appreciated,Thanks!
Just an idea Will and you have probably done so but does the connecting pin correspond to old or new?
I read online somewhere that the old Noguchi bases had a steel pin instead of an aluminum one like the newer tables but there was no description of the pin.This old table base has a metal pin about the width of a pencil and I think its steel.
Does a magnet stick to it?
