Carved Oak Side Chair - English (I think)

I've been really getting back into furniture. Today I went to the place where I stashed all of my old chairs that I found about 5 years ago. Among them are these (There are 3 or 4 matching ones to the one pictured above). I bought these at the estate liquidation of a groundskeeper from one of the state parks here in NJ. He had collected things over the years, saved furniture from fires, floods, etc. This is what I learned, anyway these chairs....solid oak. Hand carved, I believe they are. Hand carved joints. I would love to get one of the joints apart to see what kind of method was used. I cannot tell if the screws and the nails were original.

I show these because I am thinking about having the set professionally restored at some point. The chairs, I think are older than I first thought. I did actually re-cane one of the seats, but it was my first try it turned out very loose and not so good. Please feel free to comment. Enjoy!
