We just found this and love the green color and the way it would hang to use.

No idea if this would be a railroad lantern or ship?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Not necessarily a Railroad or Ship Lantern but the dual use (table or hanging) makes it special. The unpainted Tin side is supposed to act as a reflector or was deliberately not painted because the paint would overheat and smell bad when the lamp was in use. It would also protect the wall from the heat when it was used as a hanging lamp. I would think that this utilitarian lantern would date early 1900's. The chimney is newer. RER(BOB)

      Hi Loumanal,

Thank your for the info. It does seem to be a unique piece. What does RER (BOB) mean?
