I was going through my mother's things and found this leather body doll, about 13" high. I have no idea what to ask for this doll, a ballpark figure would be so appreciated, but so far i can't find the right site to get any information. If you can help me that would be great. On the back it kinda looks like it says germany, and below that i am not sure. Also should i clean it up first with a leather cleaner and porcelain cleaner? Thank you for any help you can give me.

Your bisque German doll dates from 1890-1920's . She is called a dolly face . Her legs and arms are made of composition.
We will pull leather down gently in doll world to see her markings better . That is who made her . She can not have any crack or hairline cracks in head . Do NOT clean Kid leather body it will ruin it !!. I would suggest pulling down a bit on leather that is glued to cover maker name . We don't do not give out prices on CW and these types of dolls have fallen in price over past years . Can you make out any of letters inside circle that will help me a lot .

it looks like a W and next to it possibly a small o, at least the upper half look like o.
where do you suggest trying to get a value. you have certainly been a big help, thank you. the one arm, inside elbow is damaged.

The circle mark is not common I usually can tell by seing a part of a mark or number . Is the circle raised ? Her value very much depends on maker , So we either ull it down and see whole mark which is exactly what I would do . It will not harm doll , You will just use elmers to glue it back down. She is a what we call a shoulder head and usually the back plate that is marked is on outside of body ,however they did do some this way .

I tried best i could to pull the leather down, sure looks like o, but maybe a 9?? Does the W make sense?
    6. kathyb45, 10 years ago
Oh, and yes the inside of the circle is raised a little, or you could say the circle outline goes in

I carefully pulled more leather down and took closeup pic, but not sure how i can add another pic. ??

go to edit your post and you can add a photo each post can hold 4 photo's . Upload it and save . I will watch . If you can't do it email me the photo and I will reply on here . Manikin1234@aol.com
There were several companies that started with W . Your mark does not appear much so they may have only been in business a short time or it is a variation

On the post you have now I can't even make a W . another thing you can do to make it clear is rub a pencil over it . You can wipe off bisque and not harm it

Tried that, yeah doesn't look like W anymore. Looks like 1 or l and 1/0, looks hand "carved" so hard to tell, although the circle outline looks like a stamp pressed down to make the imprint. The wor Germany looks hand "carved " also,

That is a 17/o it is size numbers . If there is nothing under that circle . She will be a unknown maker . I suspect it might say something below circle .
    12. kathyb45, 10 years ago
Took other shoulder down, pulled more leather down, nope, nothing under circle.
So unknown, that probably isn't good. Was going to put $25 in garage sale, but maybe i will hold on to find out more.

Can you see under hair anything ?
    14. Manikin Manikin, 10 years ago
Oh no she is worth more than that !
    15. Manikin Manikin, 10 years ago
She either has had her hair replaced but we call that a fur wig and if original increases her value .
    16. kathyb45, 10 years ago
Nothing under hairline, her head and face, teeth are in good shape. About the hair, it is red, very soft, looks like a wig, very secured down, looks like it was very curly at one time.

You have gone above and beyond here, thank you so much. I will set it aside and down the road figure out what to do with her, along with two other dolls mom had, but, they are not as old. Mom is 95 and memory is bad so i can't even ask her where she got them. Again, THANK YOU!!
