    Today I bought this piece from a local barn sale for 2 dollars. It appears to be hand-forged cast iron. There are five movable chains between two movable stakes. Does anyone have a clue what this could be, and it's worth?

      I was going to say linch-pins for old wooden wagon wheels but couldn't think of a reason why 2 would be chained together.

      could be log shackles used to chain logs together when running down the river. they hooked several logs together to form a raft of logs ...hotairfan
