TGBWC Your intentions are good but maybe a bit harsh Just explaining these are made up pieces and warn us about them . But perhaps since this is a place to show what we have collected it and if poster loves it as a decorative piece which it is then giving them a love is ok as long as they know it is not authentic Coke made item. I always respect the knowledge of experts in their field of knowledge so I hope we use that to teach and not to condemn new collectors but steer them clear of unscrupulous dealers that pawn stuff off as Original to unsuspecting buyers. I always encourage doll people to know what they are buying read books, research and buy from a reputable dealer IF you can find one . Your a great asset to site but hope more gentle in explaining :-)) I do respect your knowledge . Now if poster will change title to a say A sample of a coke ad that was made to look old nut is a fake , That will help others on a google search . Kindest Regards
    6. Signaholic Signaholic, 10 years ago
It is certainly a made up piece but TGBWC has to realize not everybody knows what we know.
    7. Manikin Manikin, 10 years ago
I sure would not have known signs age from a photo, so I learned something new also and that is what makes this site so good we learn and teach each other :-)
Oh I made a typo above should say "A sample of a fake Coke Ad made to look old but it is not original "
    8. Virginia.vintage Virginia.vintage, 10 years ago
I havent words to say you "thanks" dear Manikin.
You understand my situation, you are right in all that you wrote.
So true when you said: "Here we help each other".
      Big hug!

      Signaholic, many thanks!!

A completely fabricated piece showing content which is offensive to many Americans. If it was a copy of a real Coca-Cola ad, we could call it a fake and appreciate how far we've come. But the fact that a recent faker depicts the banjo man in black face, this speaks to an ugliness that still remains. It deserved a harsh assessment.

This is a new lesson for me TGBWC, you helped me. Thanks.
    12. Manikin Manikin, 10 years ago
TG I have had to tell people their Grandmothers doll which they think is old because it was grandma's that grandma bought it when she 80 off home shopping it is a newer doll made in style of antique doll . I guess I just use a more gentle approach to telling them . I agree poster lists it as old but also they may have believed it was . Give them a chance to change title as a decorative piece is all . I know you have your heart in right place and want to warn people and it shows it upsets you when you see something misrepresented . But give poster a chance to find out . Now they know :-) and thanks for waving red flag on this so no one else gets fooled . Hopefully it was not a dealer that sold it to poster then shame on them !!! Some of us do not know real coke items from old as so many repro's . So we learn from you Coke experts in case we see something we may have a clue to what we are buying and for that I am grateful :-)

Someone is trying to take my title as most cantankerous.
    14. Virginia.vintage Virginia.vintage, 10 years ago
      Thanks so much Daddy!
    15. Manikin Manikin, 10 years ago
Daddy_Nobucks, It was the reality many years ago and hopefully people see it as a lesson learned on disrespect for people of color . But to assume poster meant to demean anyone I don't think so . I have seen many Old African American items posted on here and they may get a love because we know those items and how they depicted people of color was wrong but it is history and we learn from that and to never go back to that kind of stereotyping again . It is a first time poster so I like to think they came to site to learn before I judge . Kindest Regards and point well taken .
    16. Manikin Manikin, 10 years ago
fhr you will always be my favorite cantankerous guy :-) lol
    17. Manikin Manikin, 10 years ago
I agree with that TG ! 100% !! I would say they did it to make it more compelling to sell . Now that I know it is a fake .
    18. Daddy_Nobucks Daddy_Nobucks, 10 years ago
Sorry, a pretty girl would make it more compelling to sell (Coca-Cola's known this for 128 years). But I understand your points and have no problem with authentic historically accurate collectibles. They provide perspective. As do you all, thank you.

AGREE with TGWBC: Why would anyone love this junk!

      TELL IT LIKE IT IS.

GARBAGE item made to deceive and take $$ from collectors too lazy to educate themselves!

kyoung620 sorry to have taken over your post with our points of view. You have heard from 3 exports in Coke -TG, Signaholic and Daddy -Nobucks
Your item is a fake and I hope through the discussion here you were not taken by someone misrepresenting it . You can take it to bank from the exports it is a fake . I hope your not disappointed and perhaps you found it and I too would not have known difference in it along with many others that do not study Coke. Perhaps you could change your title to say a Fake Coke Ad beware buyers and save someone else from being fooled by it . We do welcome you to CW and have experts in many fields so please do come back and maybe if your not sure on a item post it as a Mystery item :-)
    21. Manikin Manikin, 10 years ago
LOL sorry my eyes are not so good excuse the typo you know I meant 3 experts TG :-)
    22. Manikin Manikin, 10 years ago
Oh and Thank you Scott we did get confirmation on a fake by 3 experts . And we have no restrictions on what we love that I heard of yet ? Or did CW change rules . Always a pleasure to see you .

" ... So if someone who is uneducated and lists something real for too cheap ... Of course you do the right thing and notify them about the real worth before they sell it ...."

The right thing would be for the owner to ASK questions prior to offering an item.

When folks do ask for information on this site (NOT a sale site), the information and facts are provided, FREE of charge. I have seen the coke folks identify a rare item as such to an owner several times. I personally have done the same with antique photographs and military items.

Additionally, I am happy to provide information on items for NO CHARGE at all of the Civil War/ Militaria shows that I set up at.

Once an owner prices an item and offers it ONLINE (sale/ auction), I have no ethical issues with purchasing, even if it is a low price.

However, I have at times offered sellers MORE $$, when doing a face to face deal.

My point is this, it's all in your approach. TGBWC, you have this knack for going too far when sharing your point. Just an observation. You can't help it! LOL

Got more comments than i thought it would. I am not a coca-cola collector, i recieved this piece from a family member who purxhased it a few years back and belived it to be a real piece. I was going to sell it, but prior to selling it i wanted to find info on it. I couldnt find any so i posted it on here in hopes of someone leaving a comment with information. I am sure glad i posted it because i would have felt awful for the person who might have bought it! Thank you guys for the information! P.s. i changed the name to fake :)

I want to said with all my respect that people for me havent a color skin, we just have a soul. I love "Black Americana", part of history of the humanity, a part of us, they suffered so much in the past and how forget it.
Isnt bad give an advertising commercial art class when people have the knowledge of experts in the area. I appreciate so much this and just can said thanks.

BTW I have seen it written several times, what does Ebay and BIN have to do with each other??
    36. Manikin Manikin, 10 years ago
Bigsarge ebay can be a auction or a BIN ( Buy It Now ) the seller has set price so you can buy and no auction to bid on :-)
    37. Bigsarge Bigsarge, 10 years ago
Thanks Manikin. I do not buy on Ebay and rarely go to the site.
