I think these are very old - Victorian? - from the hardware used to mount them. I think they are so beautiful! they remind me of my Memere Lambert who had lots of shell art around her place.

Yes Zowie. i have quite a bit myself - some really nice shells and shell art. I have a giant clam which is larger than any i've seen sell in the last 20 yrs or so. it takes 3 people to move it.

      Let's see the giant clam!

These are beautiful! For food I wonder?

Inside or out in hopefully so the sun does it no damage. we use to have a herb business until the local council killed almost 10,000 plants with chlorine twice & it just became to expensive to keep replacing I hope you never have this problem & all good things come your way.

It is outside, because i have no indoor space for it. i keep it filled w/ water for the birds. i've seen them become ruined over hundreds of years, but mine isn't showing any signs of weathering yet.

That's great & I bet the birds just love to have a drink & splash around on those hot days. Speaking of days have a top one

How large are they? Could they be for serving caviar?
    11. ho2cultcha ho2cultcha, 10 years ago
Hello MrsWarren. they are about 6" wide by 5" tall. they seem pretty large to serve caviar in. they are very high quality, whatever they are.

i just found out more about these shells. they are made from Turbo mamoratus - Large Green Turban Shells. they were very popular during the renaissance and during the art nouveau period [which these date to]. for some cool pics of them along w/ nautilus shells: https://www.pinterest.com/reneh1/antique-shells/
