When stood up it is approximately 18 inches when collapsed and 12 when opened. It is carved out of one solid piece of wood, into two individual and opposite patterns. They interlock and cannot be separated. There are no signs at all of the pieces being glued together. It is finely sanded and polished. With extremely little wear. It is obviously hand carved. Aside from that I have no clue whatsoever what it is, what it's worth or anything. I think it is koa wood. It was found at a good will store in Hawaii for 10$ so I assume some kind of Polynesian history. I am fascinated by it, but completely lost.

It isn't Koa. Most likely from Africa and was a stand to hold __________. I have seen them holding bowls, glass balls, a globe, etc. Every Christmas, a little stand pops up at the mall selling nothing but hand carved wood gifts from Africa.

I had one which was similar but was a table. Unfortunately I haven't got the bottom part, I still have the table top . It bought in Kenya.
