Hi, my name is Alicia, I purchased a beautiful 1878 Martin Maier trunk yesterday for $250 and I am looking to see if anyone can recommend how to go about restoring it. Some wood needs to be stained and the straps need to be replaced. I don't know exactly what to do on the inside. It's lined in cedar and is already gutted out. The dimensions are 36×21. Thanks!

Alicia, great trunk. If you give me a call I will be happy to talk with you about what you would like to do and explain in detail how to do it.

Leather handles are available on line for a reasonable price. My Martin Maier trunks is missing them as well... never did get them replaced. http://www.thisoldtrunk.com/showcase/index.html has a couple -- scroll down

Pictures turn out fine it looks as if the trunk is in good condition. I know of someone that would also love this piece. Have a good day
