Hello CW!
This is and old mortar and pestle (more than 100 years old).
Made in white marble, its very heavy (weight: 2.600kg).
Its incomplete, without the pounder or rammer.
We have it in the kitchen and looks nice as an antique item or primitive.

I wonder how you dated this at over 100 years? Looking at the bottom finish I would be interested in knowing what you know. I always like to learn.
Very simple fhrjr2, this mortar was a kitchen item of the mother of my Grandmother and she told me that she remember being a little girl watch her mother with this cooking.
My grandmother has now 90 years old and live in Argentina.

Very nice story and you are right it is very simple. Very, very good that your grandmother has a clear mind at 90 years old. I was under the impression you had authentication for the item rather than hearsay. Regardless it is a nice item. Thanks for posting it, I enjoy marble items.
Maybe not simple for you but yes for me because she told me this I think that since I was born!
Now she has 90 years old and still remember many things, really she is amazing!
Every year come to my country for holidays and do the trip alone!

Of course that the perfect way for a collector its find the mark, the number serie, the patent but when you havent nothing of this maybe its the time to do the search, oral tradition, visual memory, photos and more can help :)
Very good goal for you to have. I was born and raised below the biggest underground marble quarry in the world. Yes, I said in the world. So I have seen a few pieces of marble and worked in the quarry and finishing shops. The quarry is in a little town called Danby, Vermont. You can Google it if you need to. My aunt still owns rights to access to the rail coming down the mountain and lives there.
I questioned the finish because it doesn't connect with the age you claim. Perhaps someone had it polished over the years.
True, the bottom finish looks diferent and I think maybe because was quite fix in a special small wood or someone like this, this I need ask to she.

She may have had it ground down to sit level on a table. She may have used it as a sugar bowl etc.
Yes, this is my idea too, remember that you need a very comfortable position to can work on it and do an effort pressing.
May had this use, can be true, really you have many experience and knowdlege on it, that is great!
