Ok good people I have seen a bottle like this one used but I can not put a name to it. Please tell me what this type of bottle is called and what it might have been used for.

It's called a cruet. Used for holding liquid condiments such as olive oil and balsamic vinegar. They are also used for the serving of the wine and water in a Catholic mass.
