This bag was given to my mother in approx 1941. It is about 20cm by 13cm and made of leather with a highly decorated oriental scene. The design appears to be Japanese.

Mother 87 birthday last month and she would love to know more about this bag she has kept all these years
Undoubtfully japanese decor, with mount Fuji in the background and the Torii gate motif (The Shinto Torii is a traditional Japanese gate commonly found at the entry to a Shinto shrine).
The clasp is made to look like a "shakudo" piece (used to decorate antique samouraï's sword)
I don't know if it is after an antique japanese woodblock print, or if it is a japanese inspired motif...
