Found this Eastlake Gentleman's chair at a garage sale this past weekend. It will be one of my next projects. I guess this is going to be a "before" picture, as it needs to be cleaned, polished, and reupholstered. I have some nice yellow velvet that I think would look good on it. Any thoughts? I have some similar chairs done in solid colors of emerald green, burgundy, and red. For some reason, I think this would look good in yellow. Only paid a few dollars for it. Eastlake and Aesthetic style furniture are my favorite styles of furniture. My house was built in the 1880's, so it goes well in my house.

Your right...total bargain. Don't you just love great garage sales. Did you see the Victorian clock I picked up at a garage sale? Sometimes you just get lucky. Love your chair!!!

smiata: Magnificant clock! Thanks for your kind post. I do just love garage sales. It is like a treasure hunt. You never know what you will find next (usually at a good price).

Whoa! Another great find. The Aesthetic period is also my favorite.

I am in love with the Aesthetic period. I have tried to get into Rococo, but haven't been successful. I even bought some Rococo parlor chairs, but am going to sell them, because the Aesthetic pieces are my real passion. Living in New Orleans, Rococo is the "in thing" and is considered upscale. I guess I will have to be happy with my own taste (but that "ain't" bad!).

I like Eastlake and the aesthetic Movment as well. Just be sure when covering it to use a nice gimp. Not that cheap stuff. And it's nails on a chalk board when people do that double barrel welt or fluting instead of gimp. That was almost never done and isn't period on this type of piece.
