NICE PIC OF WILLIAN CONRAD CANNON,ONE OF THE GREATEST MUSTACHES IN TV HISTORY,GREAT DETECTIVE! cop and detective series in the 1970s were even more prevalent than they are today, over 94% of all television shows between 1970 and 1979 were about some kind of mystery-solving on the go.

Nice!! A lot of folks don't realize that William Conrad was also the first Marshall Dillon in Gunsmoke. He played the roll for years on the radio until it went to television and the producers just didn't think he looked the part for television. So, they asked John Wayne, who turned it down. John Wayne recommended James Arness for the roll and the rest was history. At least that's the story I've always heard.
