    I would love information on what this item is! I found it at the local Goodwill for 0.49 and I could tell it was old but I can't find any info as to what it might be. There is a makers mark on the bottom stamped Schiffers & Co, Galw, Warzawa. This particular makers mark was used during the period of 1888-1914.

      Hi antiguing, I think it's Polish, from Warsaw (Warszawa). If you look up Schiffers & Co, Galw, Warzawa you will see images of this mark and other examples of silver-plate. Your item looks to me like it would have held a cup or something--just a guess. hope this helps! : )

      Thank you Jewels! No apologies necessary : ). Walksoftly, the dimensions are approx. 2 and a quarter inches tall by 2 inches across. It would hold a shot glass. I know our portion sizes today are much larger than they were then so my first thought was a possible tea cup holder but it still seems so small and is lacking the decorative touches.

      Oh, it's so tiny! Maybe it is a piece of Judaica? Candle holder?

      Yes, if you type in galw into ebay, there are a few similar examples and they are listed as glass holders

      The only reason I am unsure about that is because typically teacup holders are much more decorative than what I have. I have looked and looked at teacup holders trying to find one similar to this and have been unable to find anything. : ) I have even looked at Maritime ones, looked for Civil War issue teacup holders thinking because it is lacking the decorative aspects maybe its use was more utilitarian in nature and less shall we say, social, in nature. I can find nothing identical to it.

      Very interesting! I read the history of Schiffers and Co and it didn't say too much, but that it did craft fine quality wares.
