My first piece of Cranberry glass, & very pretty it is too, i can see why its so popular.
The pointy bits where the feet are stuck on are very fine.
Thank you Anne & LadySalt for the fantastic info

It's gorgeous Fran. My first piece of old glass was cranberry, or maybe my second, as I think a Davidson William and Mary salt.
It may have been a salt, it's certainly small enough. Things you need to watch for as there was a bit of reproduction Italian cranberry or ruby glass as I think they call it in the UK.
Predominately collected in Italy and the States, the usual give aways are the thickness I find. The thinker the glass the later it is and you can in the main say that for a lot of glass.
It may possibly too have had a lid so part of a dressing set or jewellery collection, maybe a ring box, a mustard pot, so many things.
Fenton made a tone of the stuff. Theirs tended to move more towards pink. I think I have one Fenton but the other I think might be an English 1800s maker.
AndKaren sent me the most gorgeous vase, just a delight, it has a sticker so not old old but it has prime place in my collection as it's just gorgeous..what a sweetheart. I'm trying to find the right gift in return, I'm travelling to Adelaide next weekend, so who knows, we have some good antique shops over there, hope I can find something Japanese.
Well bye for now, my monthly visit but love your finds, they are great...

Hi Anne, good to hear from you, & thank you :) your cranberry sounds lovely. Old or new i love its colour ( which i guess is why it always costs more ) do you think this one is old or more recent? I did wonder if its newer than Victorian.

Hi Vintagefran, this would certainly turn up as a salt in many collectors cabinets and I Would buy it as such. The size looks to be Master Salt size rather than as a small individual salt. I love the feet. A lot of salts have nibbles around the rim where a salt spoon would rest. I would put it in the late 1800's. The maker would be almost impossible to tell as so many countries copied each other, but Cranberry salts are always highly desireable.

Hi LadySalt, thanks for taking a look.
I'm astonished it could be that old & funny what you say about them often having chips, as this has just that.
I'd never heard of a Master Salt before, how grand :)
Thank you so much for the info.

Did you know that you need some Real *gold* added in the production of Cranberry Glass? That is how you get the color. Just an FYI.....Love it Karen!!!

AR, I love the part in the link where Aggie has run out of space..I know how she feels. I only have 3 pieces of cranberry glass but would love more. Pink seems to be a favourite colour at the moment. I've just bought another, not cranberry, but pink posy vase, which I'm eagerly awaiting & keen to show off here :)
