This is an unsigned piece, but i'm 99% sure it's Awaji. I got this at Urban Ore for $3 the other day. Another one for my collection. i've got around 20 pieces of Awaji now and i just started collecting it about a year ago. Awaji was Japan's answer to art pottery during the arts and crafts period. They made simple, utilitarian pieces like this one and some really amazing, modern pieces too.

I've never seen Awaji Ware with clay any color other than white. Compare with the rest of your examples. I can see why the glaze and form would make you think Awaji, but I think the lack of any mark, clay color, and look of the base point to a different attribution.

thanks art.pottery and sean68! the clay on the candlestick is pure white. i think that it's the light i used in the photo which makes it appear beige. it's a very warm light.

I thought about you yesterday when I came up on a few things myself. I'm also gathering tiles to start my outdoor table :)

thanks shareurpassion. this item only mildly excited me. there are some awaji pieces that would shake me up, but those are pretty amazing. this is just a little utilitarian piece. that's cool that you're doing an outdoor tile table. be sure to post a pic for us to see!
