So far I have not found any markings on this piece. I am wondering if there is a chance that it is gold since it will bend without breaking. Any info. on this item is greatly appreciated.

I am not an expert but to me it doesn't look like gold. You would have to test it to be sure. However, I think it is a beautiful brooch and has an art nouveau feeling to me. Also, the clasp appears to be rather old. My best bet would be that it is from the early part of the 1900's:)

      Idcloisonne is right, I think.
But please, don't clean it harshly!!! a slight rubbing with a silver cloth will be enough to clean without removing patina.

Thanks for all the help. No I haven't tried cleaning it yet for fear of disturbing it. I am curious though to find what is under there.
