any idea how old this gem is? I was told it was for sugar, years ago sugar was like gold, they had to lock it up, maybe thats why it has a gold wash inside. it needs a good shining, only marks I can see is V12 on the bottom.

hi ! your sugar box has been made in Berlin ( Germany ) about 1870 - it was produced by the manufacturer " Vollgold " which stands for the " V " and 12 means the silver fineness - nearly 750 silver ! nice piece !!
