Remotely operated entrance gate patented by Isaac Burkholder, of Farmersville, Pennsylvania, patent #377,479, February 7, 1888.

18" x 37" x 10" folds up to 18" x 4" x 10" for easier transport. Before and after restoration photos. A good cleaning and replacement of missing cables and miscellaneous parts brought it back to operating condition.

Haven't figured out why, but I really enjoy the salesman samples posted on CW. Amazes me how imaginative these people were back in those days. A few I haven't figured out but don't dwell on them. Thanks for your contributions. How did you get into this & better yet, where do you find them?

Blunderbuss2. Thanks for your comments. Like you I am fascinated with the creativity of our ancestors. I have been a barbed wire collector for over 50 years and as you know every fence has to have a gate. My love for all things fence and all things small led me to pursue a collection of gates. I have acquired them from fellow collectors, EBay, and other online auctions. My engineering background is also a factor as restoring them to operating condition is a real challenge.

Hi there. I just picked up a similar burkholder salesman sample gate and I'm trying to figure out how it works. It's all metal construction and folds out the same way. The gate is wire. It might be missing some components. I'd love to send you some photos and to figure out how to make it function. My email is eric.oglander@gmail.com. Thanks!
