From my Grandparents house/estate - 1950s, possibly earlier. Trying to search online for any similar chess sets with soldiers/men for pawns and full rearing horses as knights -- anyone have any idea of designer/mfr or where to look for what it is possibly worth? Plastic pieces, but 'ornate' detailing as if carved - all have full felt bottoms, but not particularly weighted pieces. Thank you.
My father had a very similar set which I inherited but its in poor condition. The Knights in my set are mounted by soldiers and the bishops are a different design but the rest of the pieces appear identical. I think he bought it in the late 1960s to early 70s in South Africa. I still have the set but not the packaging. Can you post a picture of the outside of the box? There are similar sets by a manufacturer ES Lowe, they normally sell at auction for around 30 - 50 USD.
