From what I just saw, I have to say I'm pretty amazed at what some of these little guys fetch!!!
I'm not even sure if this is a Knapp Electric Fan or not, but I know we've got some real fans of fans here! #s=8 341 A, (there's a 5 under 341) on the opposite side there is an 8 or B. Ah, I think it's an 8 which would stand for the size 8" right? Makes sense to me. Cast iron stand. What does a Bi-polar fan mean?

This was my grandmothers fan she had for years. It does still work but it gets real hot so I never plug it in, and if I remember correctly, the cord has been changed. They obviously didn't put it back the right way either.
And what's that design about? Can you see it?
I was thinking bi-polar means runs on ac or dc but the fans with the bi-polar motors were from around 1900. Anyway to me it looks like a drug store fan, looks a lot like my Made Rite. Looks to be 1930s and in the 1930s that design wouldn't mean much because WWII hadn't happened yet.
Not sure what the numbers on the bottom stand for.

You are right about that design fort! So do you think that cord is original or was it like the black and white ones on an iron?
The reason I said Knapp is because when i put the numbers in search with elec. fan, results came up Knapp 341, so it made me wonder. I'll look more to see if I find something. I am surprised to see what these little ones are going for though. Maybe it's a certain brand, not too sure as I'm not interested in selling this one anyway.

Nope not the original cord. Should be the twisted wire type. Kind of like the iron cords but twisted.
I am thinking it say S41 instead of 341 but I could be mistaken.
Just looked up Knapp 341 and saw a DC fan from the 1890s which probably had the bi-polar motor. Yours is not that one, it's an AC motor.
I love the old fans, made before it was a capitol offense to make something it was remotely possible to hurt yourself on because you were too DUMB not to stick your fingers in a moving fan blade! Nice piece, share

And the cord has been changed, it doesn't show on the base here but it's supposed to go thru a small hole and it doesn't. I suppose I should keep my eyes out for one but is that safe?
