Leather covered box About 22" W x 11.5" h, very early nails, maybe more of a box than a trunk.
    Keyhole cover says "patent".
Any insights from trunk aficionados appreciated.

Very beautiful early trunk -- perhaps 1820's or earlier depending on construction. really wonderful brass studding -- top quality trunk at its time. I have a somewhat similar one in size and shape we have dated to be in the late 1770's or around there -- that date was based on the early "rose head" hand made nails in it. This one is a bit more ornate. A gorgeous example of craftsmanship for this era -- thanks for the post!

Incredible trunk and in such amazing condition!! I've wanted one of these for years. But, my wife says if I bring more trunks home, I'll need to get rid of some or build an addition on the house to hold them all. LOL!! Thanks for sharing.
