This box was willed to me by an antique dealer who had traveled extensively. I have no idea what is it, where it is from or what type of wood. Flowers are carved on the top, bats with black beads grace the front. Any ideas?

I meant to comment on this earlier, but I was on my way out the door, this is an awesome box! So well made! And those look like very old nails! I wonder if there are clues on the lock mechanism?

Thank you. I will look at the lock more closely and see if there are any clues. I wonder where it was made and agree with you that it is old.

Thanks. I checked them out-- I think it is like the Chinese hand carved jewelry boxes. They show a date 0f 1890. I will keep looking.
