    i bought this at Urban Ore in Berkeley today. it looks like Persian/Iranian pottery - reminds me of the Persian tiles i've had before. Can anyone tell me anything about this kind of pottery? i know NOTHING!

      It's definitely Iranian/Persian - last year I went to Iran on vacation and saw quite a lot of this kind of pottery!

      thank you surfdub66 and jensen! that must have been an interesting vacation, jensen! i love Persian art of all kinds, so i really like this bottle a lot.

      i found a few of these online and they are generally described as Qajar [1700s-1925] pottery and tin-glazed with bird/flower designs - probably used for liquor or wine.

      I think the style is traditional, but the vase is not necessarily old, as pottery is still made in this style - but it's still pretty! And yes, ho2cultcha, it was a very interesting vacation as the country is culturally very rich (and the people extremely friendly) and full of incredibly beautiful buildings and works of art! I highly recommend it!

      thank you jensen - for the information. i had the feeling that the piece might be newer, but all the similar pieces i saw were listed as old. i'd love to travel in Iran! one of the regions i have never been to...
