I had one and gave it to my brother since he's the fisherman in the family. He loved it !
I looked on eBay and yes, many have sold L. My mom bought my son some knock off called Charlie Cod or something, we still have :)
I have one of these too. I bought it at a store called "San Francisco" which was a novelty store chain in Canada (and USA?) in the '80s. They would bring stuff in at absurdly high prices and then reduce whatever didn't sell by 50% a few months later. If I recall correctly, this item was originally priced at $39.95 (ten bucks more than the price sticker on yours); then a friend bought it for $20 when it went on sale; and I bought it from them for $10 when they got bored of it!

I think we all had Billy at one time....I still have mine....I'm not sure why :)
