Lovely set of four small coffee (expresso) cups and saucers from the Art Deco period. Embossed pattern of leaves and berries decorated with tiny blue stars and an orange stripe around the edge. The design is mirrored on the saucers which have a smooth rim.
The cups are back-stamped "DORIS" Wood & Sons Ltd, Burslem, England (Burslem is in the city of Stoke). The saucers are back-stamped "DORIS" Enoch 1784 Ralph 1750. Woods, Burslem, England. In spite of these dates, this china does NOT date from the 18th century. The back-stamp is named "Indian Tree" which was used by Wood & Sons from 1931.

Hi I have some parts of a dinner set which is in exactly the same pattern and has the same back stamp. Except the colours are wine,gold and green on a cream base. I would love to know more about it as it was my Dad's - although I am not sure it was new when he got it
