1886 Providence Telephone Company Directory. This appears to the first one published by the company that had phone #s. There is a message expressing regret that the operators will no longer have time to look up each subscriber by name, and that they are providing a number that the caller should use to identify their party.

Now we are putting the "collector" back in "weekly"! Do you have an explanation as to how it survived so long? Oldest I have is a 1979 for Curacao, St. Eustatius, St. Maarten & Saba which I think I may have posted & it's about in the same condition.

I actually missed out on an 1885 version that was in better condition, I think it was #9. I bought this one out of Canada of all places!
