Hello, this is a rugged old blue painted box. Hinged lid and old nails--not indubitably solid though. Not sure of intended use? I like the way it looks :) It is approx. 21 in x 12 in x 12 in. Thanks for looking! Julie

It is not overly festooned with hardware either -- but a lovely box nonetheless. Usually a handle on the top suggests document box but by the pics it is hard to tell the size (thanks for the specs though). Does it slant with a hinge? That would suggest tool box. I wouldn't say it was superannuated though... lots of secondary life in this gem...
:) Thanks trunkman! While this box will never be accused of being ostentatious, its use to store things was a polestar for me. It does not slant with the hinge. It really is quite flimsy, as it is made from some thin boards, but holds together okay :) I believe it would be too prodigious for a document box? :)
Well the handle may be somewhat superfluous -- which is throwing me off as to its usage. I would concur with your assessment -- and surmise that perhaps its purpose was merely utilitarian... :) and bravo.... had to look up polestar...
