The Schram Automatic Sealer Company, which had been founded by Henry Schram in 1904, was named after its patented jar of the same name that used a side-sealing metal lid. In 1908 the company changed its name to Schram Manufacturing Company until 1925 when it was acquired by Ball Glass Company. I believe the exclusive fruit-jar factory was located in Hillsboro, Illinois.

I checked the internet and there doesn't seem to be a lot of these available - mainly collectors would want the complete jar with the patented metal snap-lid - unfortunately when a glass jar or bottle is dug, the metal lid has rusted away so they are rare when complete. Unlike other fruit jar companies, this company only made fruit jars exclusively, and in only a few different sizes. Also the fact they were a "short-lived" maker, only in business for about 20 years. I believe Ball Glass acquired the company simply to obtain the glass molds and to "eliminate" the competition in the fruit jar business. Apparently the actual factory and machinery was obtained later by the Hillsboro Glass Company (Hillsboro, Illinois). - I would estimate your jar as being in the 1910-1920 manufacture range and and yes, it would be desirable to a fruit jar collector since it is one of the lesser available brands (not as common as the Ball, Kerr, or Atlas brands which are available in abundance). - The one like yours I saw for sale had an asking price of $30, which to me is a little steep for a fruit jar, but that was mainly asking price (high retail), so take off 50% and that would be the basic value. It is still double what other brands are selling for. - I would keep it as an addition with your other fruit jars.
