Out here in Australia it is indeed hard to obtain good collectables if you collect English fine bone china, porcelain and pottery...

It was a terrific occassion when I met this fellow collector in Ballarat earlier this year. I then lost her card and it took forever to track her down but I did.

My new collector friend visits the UK every year to bring back her latest finds and ideas to sell. Last year she brought back an immense load of Moorcroft vases and tiles.

I decided early on in collecting days to not to touch Moorcroft. A fantastic potter but so over priced. Caused in the main by a ridiculous re release and interest in the 1980's of their earlier styles of the earlier part of last century. Don't get me wrong, I love their work but when reproductions are introduced that then causes the original patterns to inflate in price then its an artificial market and just not my cup of tea...

Similar to what Wedgwood did in the 2000's, they introduced a range of Clarice Cliff inspired work. This brought in interest in the original but also Jerry Halls purchase of a dinner and tea set created artificial price increases, which as a collector causes a nightmare in understanding the truth worth of any pieces you may have collected.

Back to Moorcroft. Several tiles have been created over the years for people to place as decorative murals in a tiled area such as a kitchen or bathroom. Some collectors like to frame them, which is what I've done.

Tile no 1 - Thistledown - produced in colection with the vase of limit 100, designed by Rachel Bishop.

Tile no 2 - Preening Peacock by R J Bishop, this work of 2007. Earlier she presented the Peacock in blue, see below and the very famous hibiscus style which is probably one of the most collected in Moorcroft world. A style that is hard to find now and retails around 300- 800 pound mark depending on tile size.

Tile no 3 - Peacock in full plumage by R J Bishop, this work of 2002. Harder to obtain and sells around 400-800 pound depending on the size.

Tile no 4 - Nicola Slaney's Blue Heaven - this one is still in sale as new and retails around the 200 pound mark.

    Please enjoy...

These are exquisite Anne ! :) How lucky you are. I've never seen anything Moorcroft in the flesh, just on the antiques shows and of course here on CW.

      Thanks Fran.
Yes I agree, they are beautiful and in fact the way the plaques are set, they make a gorgeous picture. And considering I'm a vase collector I think I prefer Moorcroft as a plaque in these nouveau styles.....

Really unusual and so happy I was able to find..
