I'm posting this item because I'm hoping someone can tell me more about what it is, it's possible origins and history. This cabinet has been passed down in my husband's family since the 1920's when his grandmother first acquired it while living in or around Far Rockaway, New York. It's believed she acquired it second hand from a neighbor. The only kind of marks I can find is "Made in Belgium 501" stamped on the back. I can't find any marks on the hardware. The cabinet has been beloved in my husband's family because she always kept candy in it for the children. It's lovingly referred to by all as "the candy cabinet". Ever since it's been passed down to us we've been curious to know more about it's origins and history. It's extremely heavy and, as you can tell from the image with the open door, made from very thick wood, perhaps oak? The most I could find online is that this form is called a tall court cupboard. Would this have come from a complete set of furniture? Would this have been sold in a furniture store in New York or maybe brought over from Europe by it's original owner? Anything you all could tell me would be appreciated. Cheers!

      That is a beautiful cabinet!
Could you do another post with pictures of the carved door panels & the hardware?
