Hi there, thanks for the post r4.
More images & I peeled off the felt to reveal the maker etc.
So it's Italian. About 46cms high, 30 cms wide.
Any more info welcome. Thanks.

Vi.Bi. was founded by Giuseppe Vallini (1925-1974) with Giuseppe Vaccon who wanted to produce, buy and sell artistic ceramics on May 3, 1952. It was started in Torino (Turin), via Talucchi 43.
By July 1955 they had had so much success that the factory expanded to a new site at via Romagnano 37 and employed around fifty workers on the site.
Working with them until 1956 were Mario Mesini & Mario Brunetti, who left Vi.Bi to set up on their own a new factory called "Ariele".
In 1956 the company became a partnership and in September of that year Vallini was confirmed as artistic director of the company.
In 1961 the factory again transferred to new premises in Strada Antica Collegno 196.
In the Sixties the ceramist/decorator Elsa Lagorio worked there.
The factory stopped production and closed down in 1972.

Nel luglio del 1955 la ditta, grazie al successo ottenuto dalla sua produzione, si ingrandisce arrivando ad occupare una cinquantina di operai e si deve trasferire nei più ampi locali di via Romagnano 37.

Nel 1961 i laboratori della manifattura vengono trasferiti nella nuova sede di Strada Antica di Collegno 196.
Negli anni Sessanta tra i collaboratori della ditta troviamo la ceramista decoratrice Elsa Lagorio.
La fabbrica, che negli ultimi anni di attività marchia le sue ceramiche "New Style", interrompe la produzione e chiude i battenti nel 1972."

It seems the Italians use the term "New Style" to describe the modernist pieces.
As to the name V.I.B.I. - it might suggest two V's : Vallini & Vaccon.
