Well the Norse Gods must be shinning upon us! Two figgjo finds in 3 days. John picked up this beauty today on a leisurely drive to his local opp shops, many were not open still from the Christmas holidays and this came from a small opp shop we had previously never had any luck at before, sometimes there is no rhyme or reason when these things turn up! its easy to sit at home in 40 degree heat, but these lovely Scandinavian pieces don't just fall in your lap! This 1960's Lotte pattern is very whimsical and collectable and we are grateful to add it to our collection. Its nice when you spend hours looking at these things online and are then lucky enough to stumble across them! It stands nearly 180cm high so is the larger of the milk/ cream pitcher, very good condition for $10. Think the weetbix will taste better with milk poured from this! But then again it might just go on display! Well done again mate! Thanks all for looking and enjoy your collecting in 2015 whatever your passion may be!

This particularly kind isn't that common to see here but yes a lot of the china, ceramics and artglass from scandinavia shown here on CW I see plenty off in secondhand and antique shops. About 10-15 years ago a lot of the ceramics from the 50's, 60's and 70's you cold get for almost nothing here in Sweden if you went to secondhand and thrift shops. Today, with the growing interest for that period and design people are more into it and prices have gone up. But you can still get lucky at less knowlagable secondhand shops and at auctions if your competitors :) aren't there. But yes, there is ofcourse a lot of these items around here and that is nice. I love scandinaviandesign. But you know I see things from other parts of the world that I find interesting. I collect jewelry and I love silver from Mexico, costume jewelry from other countries like bakelite etc that isn't easily found here. The grass always seams greener on the other side :).
I see I made some errors in the spelling, sorry. This isn't my language and when I write fast and using a phone that wants to suggest other words and spellings it's not a good combo :).
Thanks inky love your collection don't know much about glass but it's very beautiful! The shop may be a while away, have slowed down on the retro collecting running out of room! Concentrating on the scandinavian pieces they are harder to find and more pleasing to us! Yes go us! Come on Aussie and kiwi collectors join CW it's great fun and you learn heaps!
Thanks Elisabethan for the insight, no prob about spelling with the phone understand . Yes your right about the grass, lol, we always want what is different to what we are used to! Human nature I guess! Yes if only we were collecting these things for next to nothing in the 50's and 60''s, but then again they were not as collectable then! Makes you wonder what will be collectable in 50 or 60 years! Who knows!

Yes you're so right about that :). But it's best to collect things you enjoy now rather than trying
to invest. It might be horrifying things that will be popular in the future and in 50 years from now I'll be 93 and I will sit there with a smile on my face drinking my coffe from the Prunus cup, while the young ones drink theirs from a saught after papermug with a straw saved from one of the larger hamburger places that was so popular and are now forgotten ;)
Or almost forgotten ( they can't be saught after and forgotten)....
Lol so true! We will join you at 96 years old drinking from our Ali arabia cups lol, and the young ones will laugh at us I'm sure!
Great, that's something to look forward to! They can laugh and we'll be the winners, because a few years later ours will be the thing again :)

Yes Berså is a very nice design and very popular here right now. Berså means 'arbor' like a pergola of leafs. People made these 'rooms' in their gardens and you would garden furniture in them, tables and chairs and you would sit there and enjoy your 'fika' there. Fika is a Swedish word for a something we often do, we gather to drink our coffee and have something sweet to go with it. So Rörstrand and Gustavsberg had a good market to try their new designs on. Everyone wants to serve their coffee in something nice :). Every workplace in this country has coffeebreaks - one in the morning and one in the aftwernoon (15-30 minutes long) besides lunch ofcourse. I'm trying to give you a picture of how central this coffedrinking is in our culture, I think there is a reason why so much effort was put into the Mon Amie, Prunus, Anemon, Berså etc. And the name Berså gives sweeds nice associations to great coffemoments besides the nice patterns of leaves of the arbor.
Have you seen these by Stig Lindberg for Gustavberg: Adam (1958-74), Spisa Ribb, Röd Salix (röd=red, there is a black one as well) or
Zebra by Eugen Trost for Gefle (1955-67)? There might be some you like.
Wow love the imformation thankyou! Can see how ingrained these items are in your everyday life! The story and history just makes me desire them more! Yes have seen these patterns although can't remember them all by name we spend hours scanning the internet for the designs, patterns and form so they are imprinted in our memories. Because we do a lot off opp shops it helps streamline the process of sorting treasure from junk, we are still learning but getting better! Thanks for all your advice, and if I don't move over for your ceramics, will move for the two coffee breaks a day at work! Lol love love it!

This morning I talked porcelain with my mother in law, after having meen inspired by your posts. We had a look around in her house and found some interesting Rörstrand pieces that I think is not so common. I will post them when I get home. Have a nice weekend.
