This was dug out of a collapsed barn along with a M16 German Si66 helmet. I would love to just take a buffer to it and buy all the missing parts but....I keep getting told I would be crazy. Yes, I usually would agree but it is such a solid base to start with. What say you?

Buffer? Nah. I'd blast it with WD-40 and scrub it with a course non-scratch brush. Knowing me, I'd spend the next decade or two looking for parts, and be happy if the parts match the condition of the shell.

Those green scruffy pads work well on light rust. Heavy parts can be scrapped with aluminium or copper/brass. At 1st, you will see the colour of those metals on the object but don't panic as it will disappear in a week or two. When cleaning either way, be sure to keep the surface cleaned often as rust particles will scratch it real bad.
