    Presented to crew serving on the Kearsarge during it's skirmish with the Alabama June 12, 1864 at Cherbourg, France. Made by John Harriott of Boston. Awarded to my great great grandfather's brother W.Y. Evans.

      Great piece & Mani solved the pic problem. As I remember, the Alabama's powder was bad. I read some yrs back that before the end of the war, that the South was producing "the highest quality powder in the world". Wonder if that is true? Anybody know? Maybe they took on French powder passed during their 2 hr. lunch breaks. LOL!
