      They are Chinese marks. Read from the right down. The two important marks are the third right and the top mark at left: Tong + Zhi .

      Tongzhi = 1862 - 1873.

      It is described as "Chinese Tongzhi Canton Famille Rose Butterflies 5½ " Brass Armored Bowl".

      Seems to be apt.

      The bowl in the link is identified as 1900 - 1940, worth about twenty bucks. That isn't correct?

      no it looks like a real tongzhi , but this is a rather well macao fake , so it is even later than republic period !
