I found this old heavy brass fire hoze nozzle at a swap meet a while back that dates back to the 1860's - 1870's , it has a unique three piece design to adjust the water flow. They would have most likely used these back in the days of the old horse drawn fire engines from around 1870's to early 1900's

    it measures 5.5" in tall

    it is marked:

ALLEN FIRE DEPT SUPPLY Co , PROV. R.I.

    PATd NOV.5.67 & APR.27.69. BY A.F. ALLEN . PROV. R.I.

here's some info about the AF ALLEN spray nozzle:

The Spray Nozzle is a most admirable contrivance by which a pipeman is protected from the heat of a raging fire, so that he can approach close up to it, and direct the stream of water where it will prove most effective. The spray from the nozzle rising in the shape of a cone, places a watery screen between the pipeman and the heat of the fire, while at the same time driving back the smoke, and securing him a supply of fresh air.

it was designed so a fireman could get closer to the fire
