This item is a vintage Pioneer Brand Trapper Nelson Indian Packboard No. 2. The Canadian pat # dates to the late twenties. I believe it's missing the actual pack, which is removable. These where also used with out the pack to haul odd shaped items. One of the first purposely designed or commercially available backpack styles.
