I found this beautiful antique steamer trunk at an estate sale in Lake Elsinore, CA. .I dusted it off and wiped it down with some old English that's about it. It is beautiful as is. It has pink wallpaper lining inside. The tray is missing but I just love it. I have been reading some of the postings and have been able to locate the pat date on the hardware. Pat Oct 77. Also writing on the key hole but can't read it. It's so worn. Looks like a lot of experts on this site. Has anyone picked up one like mine? Can anyone share their knowledge to a newbie...

A beautiful "treasure chest" made around the 1880's. High quality hardware and construction of your "higher end" trunk. Without a maker's label we will most likely not know who made your trunk -- although there might be a contributor who, if they have the same one with a label, could help. Some hardware on trunks were patented by the actual maker of the trunk itself -- but most bought common parts from suppliers. I do not know hardware well enough to recognize what is on yours apart from saying that i have seen it before on other trunks. Whoever refinished it did a very nice job. Thanks for the post and welcome to Collector's Weekly!

Very nice cross slat barrel top trunk, I tend to call this a five over four. meaning-(Five top cross slats, with four vertical front slats). The amount of large rivets on the slats, with the metal banding ,to me are desirable features. Interesting how they used single fingered binding ,overlapping it to form one piece along the domes edge. T-man is right on as far as manufacturers, there were many. A wonderful find good luck with it.

Wow Drill, That was an eye opener. I don't know if mine was cared for or refinished. It was in home and the lady had quite a few collectibles. Her house was grand. I could have possibly been hers. But it pretty much looked like the picture I posted other than dust. Any information on the unfinished one? It looks like mine alright.

It is listed on craigslist Philadelphia Penn. under- antiques,-trunk. there are two pictures, one of the interior which appears to have a lithograph. There is no visible manufacturers label(and probably won't be) . It might be neat to to reach out and inquire about the lithograph(can't tell what it is from the photo),I'm not sure if yours has one, maybe they are the same. There was a Contact number # 484-988-1323 Kevin. I have had luck in the past to find a maker mark on one trunk to Authenticate
another,But don't get your hopes up.Who knows you could end up with twins? Best I can do much luck!
