Nice looking trunk but theres a lotta work there. Wish I could help you out but I'm learning myself. Look online and see what you can find, theres a lot of info to be had.

It is a nice trunk to restore it has nice hardware, If the trunk had no tears (yours does)in the canvas I might consider keeping it on .I tend to remove most canvas off of trunks except the French ones. There can be mold underneath. The canvas trunks were not the higher end trunks. There are protected older pine boards under that canvas, that when finished properly can stun and amaze.
It can be removed with razor knife and a flat scraper , Be prepared for some work(could be hard work) ,some canvas comes right off .Some canvas glue was designed by lucifer himself. After you pull the canvas the Glue has got to go.Think warm water and a spray bottle. I will use Isopropanol Alcohol to make sure I got all that glue off Lots of sandpaper going with the grain etc. There are trunk parts on line -Brettuns trunk village,The Trunk shop ,etc. just to name a couple. There are many. Search the net, these computers are good for that. You can possibly obtain parts, rivets, refinishing books etc. Look back at other posts on this site there is some good advise from many who refinish. Good luck with it,repost it when your done.
