this is 16" tall and was picked up at the old Kennecott Copper Mine in Alaska (which closed in 1938) .I'm trying to find out if it was made in 1768 or if that number is a Part number
can anyone tell me what this is (other than a socketwrench) | ||

Looks reminiscent of a tool used by meter readers to open "pit" lids for water meters installed in "pits" in the ground. There would be a multitude of pits to be opened in a work day.
I don't think yours is a "pit" tool but it could be a tool designed for repetitive use for perhaps opening and closing valves etc.

This was a tee handle socket. The tee bar is missing, it went through the hole at the top end so you could get leverage to turn it. The ones I have were made by a company named Williams. I got them from a family estate and never researched them because I don't want to part with them. Mine aren't marked except for the wooden box they originally came in.
