This old M-provisational African American reversible quilt was created by my grandmother Gladys Celia Durham-Henry(born 1906-d.1996). She was a third generation quilt maker in a lineage of six generations of quilt makers descended from the slave Edward Ned Titus. "Ned" and his family members were transported from South Carolina to Freestone County, Texas by the Simeon and Nancy Lake Family in 1852.

Gladys also created many M-provisational strip pieced quilts and the painted bible storyquilt above. She made hats and handbags,as well as crocheted rugs and other varied and assorted crafts. She was a farm woman, cultivating her own garden and canning the produce from it to help her husband support their large family of eight children.
