These are African American M-provisational quilts created by my mother,Laverne Brackens (b.1927). She is a 4th generation quilt maker from a lineage of six generations of quilt makers descended from the slave Edward "Ned" Titus. "Ned" and his family members were transported from South Carolina to Freestone County, Texas in 1852 by the Simeon and Nancy Lake Family. My mother is 84 and still creates patchwork quilts daily. In fact she is the most prolific quilt maker that the Titus family has ever produced. She is a heart patient who has worn out three pacemakers and is still going like the rabbit and the battery.:):):)

One of my mother's quilt tops recently became a part of a reversible shawl that was commissioned by First Lady, Michelle Obama. The Korean designer,Christiana Kim of Dosa, Inc. created the shawl, which Mrs. Obama will present to the First Lady of Korea as a present. Christiana says the shawl represents the coming together of two cultures...American and Korean. My mother is just elated that her work was chosen by Ms. Kim to be a part of the project. I am too......

Thank you, PhilDavidAlexanderMorris....yes my mother is a very special lady and so were those quilt makers in the family such as her mother Gladys C. Henry and her aunt Katie Mae Tatum...her mother's sister....All are wonderful quilt makers...and we do have a lot of superb memories in this continously developing story.
