I received this back in the late 1990's, its solid wood carved, hand painted, excellent condition, and signed on the bottom by Bill Black Jr. I've been searching the internet and can't seem to find any information on this guy. I have found alot of carved duck decoys by Bill Black, but no geese.
Who told you this was a goose?
I took it to my local hunting/fishing store and asked them. They all agreed it is a lesser Canadian goose. Isn't it? Are they wrong?

Can someone give any information where or how to have this appraised?
I would look around on-line for a Wood decoy place near you, and send them an email and see what they charge for an appraisal.....or better yet, just look around on Ebay to see if there are any there and the info they might have posted and their price.

This is a decoy made purely as a decor piece - there is another one currently on ebay signed by Bill Black Jr. offered for $18
Aghcollect, could you please post a link to that? I searched and still couldn't find any like the one I have.
I also wanted to add that this is a large sized decoy. It's 20 inches from bill to tail, and is 9 3/4 inches high to the top of the head.
