THIS ITEM WE BOUGHT FROM A NEIGHBOUR . THIS IS A HUTCH OR SECRETARY DESK WHICH HAS 2 OPENING DOORS BOTH WITH SOME TYPE INLAY OF A FACE. ALSO HAS A DROP LEAF WITH 2 FOLDING LEGS TO SUPPORT IT. THERE IS INLAY ON THE FOLD UP ALSO. WE HAVE A MATCHING DOUBLE DROP LEAF TABLE WITH THE SAME INLAY ALL THE WAY AROUND. ANY IDENTIFICATION HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I DO BELIEVE IT HAS BEEN REFINISHED

    Unsolved Mystery

APPARENTLY THE LEGS ARE REFFERED TO AS GATELEG

I wouldn't call it a secretarial as it doesn't have all the little shelves and drawers. Very interesting piece.

almost like a hutch style thing really and we like it just trying to figure out the history.

I don't think this started out like this, the proportions aren't right ...the top and bottom in my mind are separate pieces..a marriage!...the table is a drop leaf table ...it may have had another leaf on the other side, this may have been cut off ... and the top would have been just a small cupboard/shelf unit!...the two have nothing in common except that they have been finished in the same manner...hope this helps...:-)
