My husband got me this vase a few weeks ago and I want to share it with you. It probably dates to the seventies or early eighties. The vase is in mint condition and makes a perfect addition to my collection of vintage German and East German porcelain.

    Thanks for looking:)

According to marks4antiques, the mark was used as early as the 1950’s

What a lovely little vase. Mary confirmed my thought, that the mark German Democratic Republic suggested an earlier era than the 70s or 80s. :)

Thanks a lot for your help, ladies.

I was conservative with my estimate of age. My Mom had a similar shaped vase she bought in the mid 1970’s. I used this as a reference. I also found comparable imported porcelain from some of the better East German makers in stores here in Canada in the mid-eighties, thus my guess about the time. Of course with the fall of the Wall in 1989, East Germany seized to exist, meaning that all items marked with GDR are vintage items (depending on the definition of “vintage” - LOL)

I have been having a hard time dating marks on East German porcelain. I checked out the site Mary mentioned but I realized that I have no access to it. Would you recommend this site?

Once again, thanks a lot for your help!
P.S.: I am pleased that my vase could be a bit older:)

Here's what I found, if it helps: The mark indicates these are from the Reichenbach Porcelain Factory of Reichenbach, Thuringia, Germany. The GDR part of the mark is for "German Democratic Republic" (East Germany) which was established in 1949 and ended in 1990. Based on that, the pottery was made no earlier than 1949 and possibly as late as 1977 when the company put a different mark into use (Source: Directory of European Porcelain by Danckert, page 383).
